Whistler Blackcomb

Situated on the west coast of Canada, Whistler Blackcomb is one of the must visit snowboarding destinations in the world. With endless varied terrain, great nightlife and an accessible location from Vancouver (a city worth visiting for a couple of days while you’re there), Whistler is the complete package when it comes to snow holidays.

Happy riding!

Getting Here

If you are driving up, expect the drive to take around 2 hours from Vancouver.

Google map directions:

If you want to use public transport, the Greyhound Canada bus service runs to Whistler Village regularly. You can look up timetables, prices and book here

Accommodation

Whistler Blackcomb has a wide selection of accommodation available, so if you look around you should be able to get a good deal. Please note though – the Winter Olympics are taking place Feb 2010, so prices will be crazy and availability limited (ie, avoid Feb here if you are on a budget).

Budget accommodation

There are several hostels in the area but beware! Most of them are not within walking distance of a lift.

If you want to stay cheap but still have the conveniences of (almost) ski-in/ski-out, stay at the Southside Lodge (find it on hostelz.com). It is located near the whistler creek gondola (this connects into the main whistler/blackcomb lift system). Please note though, this hostel is not in Whistler Village (ie, if you go out you’ll need a taxi or bus etc).

If you want to stay in Whistler Village, another good budget option is the Marketplace Lodge

Midrange accommodation

We loved staying at the Listel Hotel. Well priced, comfortable rooms, excellent facilities (including outdoor heated pool and onsite equipment service) and a good location (short walk to the main gondolas) make this hotel a good choice. You can find more details and/or book here

High End accommodation

Check out the Four Seasons Resort in Whistler. We haven’t stayed here, but it’s supposed to be really good.

Nightlife

Whistler has a vibrant apres ski, bar, dining and nightclub scene. Nestled around the two main streets of Whistler Village are lots of good options to keep you busy into the early hours of the morning. So where to go?

When we visited we went to the Buffalo Club, other names here. You have to get the right night though, so chat to some of the locals if you feel like going crazy (lifties generally know where the party is!).

Happy boozing :-)
